They may have slightly better service and are much faster but they have much higher fees. For things that require speed, I use White Rabbit. I would not use Zenmarket for things that sell out quickly. I use Zenmarket because the service has been good albeit a bit slow and their fees are low. I've not used Zenmarket for an auction for a guitar but my friends and I buy fountain pens via auction all the time and those go off without a hitch. Zenmarket seem to understand guitars well enough because they knew all of the CITES rules.

Although, you can get some really good deals via auction so that mitigates some of the additional fees. This does limit your selection because only a few stores do this and some only for used guitars.

You are usually better off dealing with a guitar store that ships internationally because they offer tax free sales to foreigners and you then don't have to pay the Japanese domestic tax and only have to deal with one shipping fee. You then have to pay domestic Japanese shipping (unless the seller has free Japanese domestic shipping) then the proxy service fee and international shipping. Those transaction were even smoother.īear in mind that if you use a proxy service, you will end up paying the Japanese consumption tax of 10% since the transaction is treated as if you were a buyer located in Japan. All of my other Japanese guitars were bought directly from a guitar store. There was no problem and the guitar was packed extremely well but I owe that to the seller being Mikigakki. It was my test of the CITES exemption since the guitar had a rosewood fretboard. However, it was a used guitar sold by Mikigakki, a big store in Osaka. I've used Zenmarket to buy a used guitar.
